About Cardiac Imaging/PFT

Cardiac Imaging/PFT

Non-invasive cardiac imaging is an effective way to support the diagnosis of a heart condition. It allows healthcare specialists to visualise various heart-related diseases in an easy, safe, fast, and efficient manner.

We specialise in providing advanced imaging of the heart with different non-invasive imaging modalities, including, Echocardiogram, TMT, Holter, Stress Echo and much more.

Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) is a non-invasive method to measure the function of the lungs. It precisely assesses the lung volume, capacity, rate of flow, and gas exchange. The testing helps doctors diagnose certain lung disorders, including:

  • Allergies
  • Lung cancer
  • Asthma
  • Infections
  • Lung fibrosis
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Pulmonary Function Testing- with an Ultrasonic Sensor and Diffusion Abnormality Assessment

Mahajan Imaging & Labs has advanced Pulmonary Function Testing systems for Spirometry and Diffusion Abnormality Assessment. Our machines are the best in class amongst the first few in the country. Unlike regular PFT systems, the machines are capable of not only screening but actual diagnosis as well. It comes with the following features:

  • Real-time temperature correction (ATPS & BTPS): Most accurate and precise results
  • Diagnosis is unaffected by temperature, heat or humidity
  • Helium is used as tracer gas instead of Methane and likewise cheaper and pungent-smelling substitutes
  • Aids diagnosis and is not used only for screening
  • Most Patient friendly and most hygienic system- No cross contamination

Echocardiography

An echocardiogram (echo) is a test used to assess the heart's function and structures. An echo uses sound waves to create pictures of your heart’s chambers, valves, walls, and the blood vessels (aorta, arteries, and veins) attached to your heart.

The test helps to find out:
  • The size and shape of your heart and the size, thickness, and movement of your heart’s walls.
  • How your heart moves.
  • The heart’s pumping strength.
  • If the heart valves are working correctly.
  • If blood is leaking backwards through your heart valves (regurgitation).
  • If the heart valves are too narrow (stenosis).
  • If there is a tumor or an infectious growth around your heart valves.
The test will also help your doctor find out if there are:
  • Problems with the outer lining of your heart (the pericardium).
  • Problems with the large blood vessels that enter and leave the heart.
  • Blood clots in the chambers of your heart.
  • Abnormal holes between the chambers of the heart.

Stress Echo

A stress echocardiogram is a test done to assess how well the heart works under stress.

The "stress" is triggered by either exercise on a treadmill. Some heart problems, particularly those involving the arteries that supply blood to your heart muscle (coronary arteries), occur only during physical activity. In a stress echocardiogram, ultrasound images of your heart are taken before and immediately after you walk on a treadmill.

Dobutamine Stress Echo

A Dobutamine stress echocardiogram is a test done to assess how well the heart works under stress. The "stress" is triggered by a medicine called Dobutamine. A dobutamine stress echocardiogram (DSE) may be used if you are unable to exercise. Dobutamine is put in a vein and causes the heart to beat faster. It mimics the effects of exercise on the heart.

Please advise us beforehand

Some medications may interfere with your test and prevent an accurate diagnosis. Please inform us at the time of booking if you are taking any heart or blood pressure medications. Please also advise us if you have any physical or medical condition that would impact your ability to walk on a treadmill.

TMT

A treadmill test (TMT) or exercise stress test is one of the commonest forms of stress tests for the diagnostic evaluation of coronary artery disease. The cardiac stress test is done with heart stimulation, either by exercise on a treadmill. The level of mechanical stress is progressively increased by adjusting the difficulty (steepness of the slope) and speed. The test administrator or attending physician examines the symptoms and blood response. The TMT machine installed at Mahajan Imaging & Labs uses special algorithms and measures multiple risk factors which can be reported simultaneously, giving a comprehensive view of the risk. It can also assess the risk of Sudden Cardiac Death, which is now a very common phenomenon across the world.

Holter

A Holter monitor is a machine that continuously records the heart's rhythms. The monitor is worn for 24 to 48 hours during normal activity. When a person has a Holter monitor study, they wear the monitoring device for either 24 or 48 hours, and the ECG recorded during this time is subsequently analysed for any cardiac arrhythmias that might have occurred during the monitoring period, as well as for any signs of cardiac ischemia. The Holter monitor study is very effective in diagnosing cardiac arrhythmias, as long as they occur with sufficient frequency. The test is very safe.
