What is a BLOOD GROUP ABO & Rh FACTOR?
Blood Group ABO & Rh Factor is a blood test that determines a person’s ABO blood group—A, B, AB, or O—and Rh status, which is positive or negative. The test is needed to ensure compatible blood transfusions and is routinely performed before surgeries, blood or platelet transfusions, and organ transplantation. It is also important during pregnancy to identify Rh incompatibility and help guide appropriate maternal and newborn care.

FAQs
Rh-positive means that the RhD antigen is present on the surface of the red blood cells. Most people are Rh-positive.
Rh-negative means that the RhD antigen is absent from the red blood cells. Rh-negative individuals may require specially matched blood during transfusion.
O-negative red blood cells are commonly considered the universal red-cell donor type for emergency situations, although proper blood typing and compatibility testing are preferred whenever possible.
People with AB-positive blood can generally receive red blood cells from all ABO and Rh groups, but hospitals still perform appropriate compatibility testing before transfusion.
Rh incompatibility can occur when an Rh-negative mother becomes exposed to Rh-positive fetal red blood cells and develops antibodies that may affect a future Rh-positive pregnancy.
