What is a CECT ORBIT?

CECT Orbit is an advanced contrast-enhanced CT examination that provides detailed imaging of the eye sockets, orbital bones, muscles, optic nerve region, and surrounding soft tissues to evaluate masses, infections, inflammation, proptosis, and other orbital abnormalities, supporting accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

FAQs

Can CECT Orbit detect an orbital mass or tumor?

Yes. Contrast-enhanced CT can help identify abnormal masses or soft-tissue lesions within the orbit and assess their location, size, enhancement, and relationship with surrounding structures. MRI may be recommended when more detailed soft-tissue or optic-nerve assessment is required.

Can CECT Orbit detect an orbital infection?

Yes. CT with contrast can help evaluate orbital infection and inflammation, including the extent of disease and involvement of surrounding structures.

Can it evaluate eye swelling or bulging of the eye?

Yes. CECT Orbit may be used to investigate proptosis (forward displacement of the eye) or enophthalmos (recession of the eye) and can help identify an underlying orbital or surrounding structural abnormality.

Can CECT Orbit evaluate the bones around the eye?

Yes. CT provides detailed visualization of the bony orbit and surrounding facial bones, making it useful for assessing fractures, bone erosion, anatomical abnormalities, and other bony changes.

Should I inform the radiology team about kidney disease or previous contrast reactions?

Yes. Inform the medical team about kidney disease, previous reactions to iodinated contrast, allergies, pregnancy, diabetes, thyroid conditions, and other relevant medical conditions before contrast administration.
