The HCV rapid card test is highly sensitive for screening purposes, effectively detecting anti-HCV antibodies in most cases. However, the possibility of producing false positives is there, so a positive result requires confirmation with a more specific test, such as a PCR test for HCV RNA, to verify an active infection. Whereas negative results are generally reliable but may be less accurate in early infections.
