What is a INHIBIN-B?

Inhibin-B is a blood test that measures the level of inhibin-B, a hormone produced by the ovaries and testes. It plays an important role in reproductive function and regulation of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). The test may be needed to assess ovarian reserve and reproductive function in females, or sperm-producing (Sertoli cell) function in males, particularly during fertility evaluation or certain reproductive disorders.

FAQs

What does Inhibin-B indicate in females?

In females, inhibin-B is produced mainly by developing ovarian follicles and may provide information about follicular activity and ovarian reserve.

What does Inhibin-B indicate in males?

In males, inhibin-B is produced primarily by Sertoli cells in the testes and can provide information about Sertoli cell function and spermatogenesis.

Is Inhibin-B a test for fertility?

It can provide information relevant to reproductive function, but it is not a standalone fertility test. Fertility assessment usually involves several clinical and laboratory factors.

Can Inhibin-B assess ovarian reserve?

Inhibin-B may provide information about ovarian reserve and follicular activity, but other markers such as AMH and antral follicle count are commonly used as well.

Can Inhibin-B predict pregnancy?

No. Inhibin-B alone cannot predict whether a person will become pregnant. Fertility depends on multiple factors involving both partners.
