What is a METANEPHRINE-FREE PLASMA?

Metanephrine-Free Plasma is a blood test that measures free metanephrine and normetanephrine, breakdown products of hormones such as adrenaline and noradrenaline. It is needed to help detect or rule out hormone-secreting tumors, particularly pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma. Healthcare professionals may recommend it for unexplained or fluctuating high blood pressure, episodes of severe headache, palpitations, sweating, or when an adrenal mass or hereditary risk is identified.

Patient Preparation: Overnight fasting is mandatory. Patient should strictly avoid drugs like Labetalol, Sotalol, Acetaminophen, Methyldopa, Antidepressants and agents like Ephedrine, Amphetamine, Nicotine and Caffeine etc. Avoid foods like banana, pineapple, nuts and cereals etc. at least 72 hours prior to sample collection.
