What is a MRI BRAIN DBS PROTOCOL?

MRI Brain – DBS Protocol is a specialized high-resolution MRI examination performed for deep brain stimulation planning. It provides detailed visualization of targeted deep-brain structures and surrounding anatomy to support precise electrode targeting, safe surgical planning, and appropriate DBS treatment.

FAQs

Is MRI Brain – DBS Protocol performed before or after DBS surgery?

It is most commonly performed before DBS surgery for surgical planning. Additional imaging may also be performed after implantation when clinically required and when the implanted system is confirmed to be MRI-conditional.

Do I need any preparation before the examination?

Usually, no special preparation is required for a non-contrast examination. Inform the MRI team about all implanted medical devices, metallic implants, previous surgeries, pacemakers, pregnancy or possible pregnancy, and other relevant medical conditions.

Will I need other imaging for DBS planning?

Depending on the DBS system and surgical approach, the neurosurgical team may combine MRI information with stereotactic CT, specialized imaging, or other navigation data for accurate electrode planning.

Who may need MRI Brain – DBS Protocol?

This examination is primarily performed for patients who are being evaluated for Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery. It may be recommended when precise imaging of deep brain structures is required for treatment planning.
