NCCT Dual Energy Spectral Joints/Implant is an advanced non-contrast dual-energy CT examination used to evaluate orthopedic joint implants and surrounding bone structures, helping reduce metal-related imaging artifacts and assess implant position, loosening, fractures, and other postoperative or implant-related abnormalities.
Disclaimer: Result availability is subject to the laboratory's schedule and test availability.
Metallic implants can produce streak and beam-hardening artifacts that may obscure nearby structures. Dual-energy spectral CT can use specialized reconstruction and material-analysis techniques to help reduce these artifacts and improve visualization around the implant.
It can demonstrate findings that may suggest loosening or abnormal positioning of an implant, although diagnosis is based on the CT findings together with clinical assessment and other investigations when required.
Usually, no special preparation is required for a non-contrast examination. You may be asked to remove jewellery or other removable metallic objects near the examination area.
Depending on the findings, your doctor may recommend X-rays, MRI, ultrasound, laboratory tests, joint aspiration, or other orthopedic evaluation.
