This examination is commonly performed to evaluate urethral strictures, urethral injuries, recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs), vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), bladder abnormalities, urinary obstruction, urinary incontinence, congenital urinary tract abnormalities, and other lower urinary tract disorders.

In RGU, contrast dye is injected into the urethra to evaluate its structure and detect narrowing or injury. In MCU, the bladder is filled with contrast material through a urinary catheter, and X-ray images are taken while the bladder fills and during urination to assess bladder function and urine flow.

The examination evaluates the urethra, urinary bladder, bladder neck, and the passage of urine during urination. It also helps assess whether urine flows backward toward the kidneys (vesicoureteral reflux).
